Welcome to Horizon!

Things to do in Horizon:

• Delivery Moogle - send messages to friends or family or whoever
• Visit the weapon and armor vendor
• Speak with other adventurers, including your group!
• Talk to other NPCs and possibly gain knowledge, quests... who knows!

Well, I'd be careful about doing anything too illicit in these parts. They tend to take... borrowing without asking rather seriously.

I still have some leftovers from my arena winnings. Tell you what, if after we've gotten some key supplies, we'll see if I can help chip in for some equipment for you. I'd rather spend a few gil then see you lose a hand...

"Hold on!" Meriri squeaks as she rushes to catch up to her taller companions. Little Lalafell legs have to work twice as fast. A huff of breath out. "I don't need anything, but I wanted to see the shops anyway. See how the Merchant's Guild is doing out here."

Riyo'a gives a shooing wave."You guys go on ahead. I'm going to go check out the local tavern." Or maybe he'll just take a nap in the shade. That sounds like a good idea.

[GM: There is indeed a small tavern because what kind of settlement wouldn't have somewhere to drink? It's a bit of a hole in the wall, but it has a sign out front to tell what it is. The ale is cheap, which probably means it's shit but it's cold at only 5 gil per bottle. There's wine at 10g per glass, a little better, not cold though. Water is actually the most expensive at 15g per glass, but it is ice cold. There's quite a few people in here given that it's lunch, and the meals are very basic but hearty.]

Riyo'a looks at the menu and geez that's an expensive glass of water. He should go for that since it's the most hydrating thing he can get and Menphina knows he needs it, but nope, too rich for his blood, especially since he's used to it being, you know, free. Paying for water is just absurd!

He strolls into the place and waves at the barkeep, coin in hand. "Yo, I'll take an ale, please."

A Hyur male, dressed in a leather vest and a subligar, peers out from behind the bar and nods. "Of course!" He fills a glass up and brings it over, grinning to Riyo'a as he approaches. "Haven't seen you 'round these parts before." He takes the gil, lingering for a moment. "Passing through?"

Riyo'a nods in thanks, downing half the glass before answering then man. It's far from the best he's had, but at the moment he couldn't care less. "Yeah, I'm not from this neck of the... desert. I'm part of a hunt for a beast that's been causing some trouble around here." He takes another sip. "I don't suppose you know anything about..." What was it called again? "a desert paste?"

Close enough.

It's cold, and in the desert, that's often the most important thing of all. Cold and wet. However, at Riyo'a mispronunciation, the bartender laughs. "Oh, you mean them ugly Peistes? What about 'em? They're all over the place out there. Obnoxious bastards. They'll come out in a swarm and mess up people coming by."

He scratches his neck, gesturing a little. "Don't fight 'em myself, so that's all I know. Dangerous things."

The Seeker's cheeks tinge pink at his blunder. He's not from around here; it's not his fault the wastelands of Ul'dah have weird shit in them.

"Swarms? So... not alone, then?" Well that was weird. He's pretty sure they only found the one set of tracks, but maybe he was mistaking; the heat could have mixed him up. So either they were dealing with one crazy powerful one, or they were about to come up on a group of the damn things. Or they were completely wrong and the fang or whatever it was was completely unrelated. Not knowing fully what you're dealing with on a hunt was something Riyo'a was familiar with, but he'd rather have at least some intel to go on. "Are there any other creatures around here that have been known to cause trouble?"

"You really aren't from around here!" He laughs, but not unkindly. "Everything around here causes troubles. Once you're past the city, there's all sorts of nasties. Fish as big as you, endless swarms of bugs... if you're willing to pay for it, I've heard someone around here's come up with a solution for the midge swarms, though. Not sure who, just a rumor."

Riyo'a lets out a nervous laugh as he ducks, rubbing the back of his head. "That obvious, huh? Yeah, the monsters back home are really different." He pauses, tail bristling as he hones in on a particular part of the barkeep's statement. "Those midge swarms, they're not, uh, spiders, are they?"

This damn heat was bad enough. If there are spiders here on top of that he's booking it to La Noscea.

"Stick me anywhere else and I'd be just as bad, no hard feelin's." the bartender says, though he raises a brow at the question. "Nah. Midges are little flying biters. Like to get at any kinda skin they can go for. A whole pack of 'em'll swarm you in a sec."

A small Lalafell in the corner, tucked in a black robe, calls over to the bartender. The man nods back and looks to Riyo'a. "Works callin'. Good luck out there, adventurer."

"It's always worth a look! You never know if you'll find something that will save your life in the arena, one way or another." Janvier pauses for a second. "Well, not that I'm in the arena anymore, I'm a little young to be retired but..." he awkwardly rubs the back of his head.

"Take care of yourself, Riyo! If you find a good tavern, please, don't keep it to yourself."

"Anyways, let's get this show on the road!" He grins, and once again takes a dramatic step towards the shoppes, but this time at a more appropriate pace for the Lalafell.

[GM: There's a 'general' vendor, selling all sorts of little things, and then there's an arm and armourer vendor. Both are little stalls set up in front of stone buildings. Which do you approach?]

"While I'd love to take a look at some new belts, especially since they made me give back the champion belt when I retired, I feel like you two would prefer to start on the little odds and baubles first. So, with that in mind..." Janvier starts walking in the direction of the general vendor and enters the store.
