"Because it's not nearly as exciting!" Sumimi points out, nodding firmly.
"Ah, yes, how exciting the thrill of your failure killing Threx is," the Hyur adds dryly... which earns him a kick to the shin. Then there's hopping and cursing, quietly under his breath as he rubs his shin.
Threx looks to Kasandora and tilts his head, chin coming up. "Can you think of something better, then?" Clearly curious.
Sumimi nods. "If you can come up with something better, I'll try that instead."
Kasandora's expression was about as dry as the Hyur's voice, and not even her mask could hide that. Even with the Conjurer's guild so close she did not trust them near enough to do something to fix a mistake. And the aetheryte could only go so far in fetching someone away from a dire situation. A stupid death such as this was probably a bit too quick and final for its powers.
"As I said, shooting arrows out of the air would suffice, most likely." She waved her hand expressively but then stroked her chin as a thought unfolded as she offered it, "Or if you insist on a living target, why not shoot the cap of a funguar at thirty yalms? If your arrow cleaves off the shriekshroom completely then that's a sure victory."
Kasandora's eyebrow went up at the protest but then she smiled as the Hyur spoke in support of her idea. "That's the point. It's something that can be settled by the draw of the bow, but striking the right point on your target could work just as well. Besides, sheering it off would be unlikely anyway, hence the bonus."
She glanced back in the direction of the inn, even if it was to the Shroud as well, and then back to the guild hall. She still wasn't sure why she was here. What was she going to do? Surrender herself to the Bowlord?
"Ah...that should be fine, aye. Just so long as we're back before morning."
"Then let's go!" Sumimi starts a march off towards the proper gate in that way Lalafells do with Threx following along. Revenald moves along side of Kasandora, hands still in his pockets and looking amused.
"So you're not much of a name giver, I guess. Never seen you around the Guild before."
Kasandora walked with the group, mindful of the Lalafell's pace and making sure to slow her stride to let him keep the lead. Revenald coming up alongside her catches her a bit by surprise and she glances at him sideways through her mask.
"Ah...no. I've not been to Gridania in years. When it comes to the bow I'm...self taught." She tries to offer him a smile but her teeth clench and it comes out a bit awkward, "Kasandora. My name is Kasandora."
"Really??" That clearly has Revenald's interest. "Well, it's nice to meet you, Kasandora." He takes the awkwardness in stride, but then again, his calm attitude seems to take everything in stride. "I'm Revenald, and those two idiots are Sumimi and Threx. The three of us are hoping to be Wailers someday..."
He trails off, looking to his friends, and the corner of his mouth lifts. "Or at least those two do. Seems as good as an occupation as any." His shoulder lifts and falls in a nonchalant shrug.
Kasandora nods once at each name offered, filing them away to each name as they walked along. "Mmmm, they do good work for the most part," she offers as a noncommittal reply. She can't deny the work they do to defend the wood is important. The need for conservation itself has never really been something she questioned.
"I suppose it's a path I might have been interested in taking at one point, but it didn't seem one that was welcoming Duskwights with open arms." She grants she was a child then, and the Calamity has forced some things to change, but only as a need to replace the fallen. Not because of any social shifts.
Revenald nods, not quite giving a shrug. "Never gave a damn myself. If you can draw a bow and you want to defend the Wood, what's the difference?"
"Rev doesn't care about who he's working along side of because he was raised with Ixal," suddenly comes the call from in front of them, showing that despite their arguing, the other two are in fact listening.
Noble words, but Kasandora bit her tongue. It was nice to know they wouldn't be so easily inclined to turn their back on her because of her race but promises of a peaceful future did little to mend the hurts of the past.
But the comment about the Ixal does garner a reaction from her: a raised eyebrow visible even with the mask covering her face. She questions Revenald with her eyes but doesn't bother to put it to words beyond a simple "Is that so?"
Perhaps he DOES know something more about what she grew up with.
Revenald gives a difficult-to-read look to his friends and gives another of those 'eh' shrugs. It seems very little ruffles his feathers about things. "Yeah. The long and short of it is that my parents were killed and I was found by the daughter of the tribe's leader. She decided to keep me and I was raised by the tribe. Eventually, before the disaster, they ended up seeing the ways of their brethren and became part of the current tribe that's working with Gridania. I wasn't much of an engineer, so they sent me along to Gridania as sort of a good will gesture. Here I am."
With a bloody big bow on his back. Maybe it explains the markings on his face that vaguely look like an Ixal's mask all, done in red and black and grey. Could be makeup, maybe a tattoo. Tough to immediately tell.
"Mmm, I see. I heard rumors about some friendly Ixal but frankly I didn't put much stock in it." Her own corner of the shroud was more home to goblins and the occasional sylph. The birdfolk were a north side problem. "But if the Calamity hasn't turned them back towards their Primal then I suppose that's a good thing."
She stretched her arms, tugging on her elbows to loosen up in case she had to let some arrows fly, herself. "Do you know how the poachers in the South Shroud fared? They were always more a trouble for me when I was growing up than the Ixal were."
She expected those who made it through the first days following Bahamut's flight were likely able to make a killing on whatever supplies they had to sell at markup. The Wailers wouldn't be the type to let that slide but they were probably still dealing with recovery and refugees and had to pick their battles.
"Well, some of them, at least. Those friendly to Gridania stayed that way, but..." Revenald frowns, looking up towards the sky as if there's something plaguing him. After a moment or two though he shakes his head as if to cast the thought away.
"Anyway, poachers have been worse than ever, from everything we've heard. That's why they're fast tracking us to become Wailers. Every able body with a bow should be able to get in as long as they're a decent folk." Which makes him look to Kasandora, raising a brow. "Any interest? I know... there's been some issue with your people, but right now we need to stand strong as folk of the Wood more than ever. If you're looking for work..." He trails off, knowing it's not exactly his place but it can't hurt to suggest. The two in front of them are chatting away - mostly an 'anything you can do, I can do better' scenario, but from the way Threx keeps glancing back, they're listening.
Poachers friendly to Gridania. Kasandora had to stop herself from laughing at the idea, but she supposed in a time of crisis there were those who thought more of the land than the law and put people over profit. She was fairly sure she couldn't count her old gang in that number.
Of course, as much as she hoped they were wiped out she didn't count on that either. Shite always had a way of rising out of whatever troubled waters it ran through.
"Maybe once upon a time. Even if they're ready to accept me I'm not sure if I'm willing to do the same just yet." She surprises herself a bit with her candor but she has to admit to herself that she'd being honest. "I'd like to be sure the past is truly where it belongs before I stick my neck out in their name. For now I'll just have to do it in mine." Or at least the one she's been using.
With that, Kasandora is going to end up in charge of a very ridiculous contest. Pollen, shrooms, and laughter as Threx and Sumimi both try to out do each other, then try to encourage Kasandora to try her hand. Really, it's a bit of fun for all of them.
When all is said and done, it's hard to see which of the two is actually better, but Revenald walks back at Kasandora's side. "Sure you don't want to stick around?" he asks, smiling slightly. "At least for a drink?"
Kasandora offered Revenald a smile, a real one. This was enjoyable though it made her aware that this is the sort of experience that she felt Gridania had denied her so many summers ago.
"I'm sure. I should get back to my traveling group. There's some things we need to attend to. One of the guilds had us come this way to gather supplies. It's possible they've gotten started without me."

"I think she's right. Pretty damned hard to cleave just one part of it."
Threx makes a face, but even he nods. "I don't even think it's possible to do unless you're the bloody guildmaster."
Which makes Sumimi's eyes light up. "Ooooh~ then you're on! The long leg and Revenald can judge!"
The Hyur, Revenald evidently, looks to Kasandora and smirks lazily. "Up for helping us out...?" With a drawing out and a gesture hoping for a name.
